    REPOSITIONING OF LIBRARIES SERVICES TOWARD NATIONAL INTEGRATION AND NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA

    ABSTRACT National integration and national development are the important tools for the growth and existence of the nation. This cannot be possible without reliable and adequate information resources and services. One of the social institutions that responsible for the delivery of information resources and services are libraries. From the literature reviewed, the study showed that for library to easily achieve these goals, they need to tailored their collection and services toward Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which will help them to easily achieve these goals. The study also suggest different ways by which library could reposition their services to contribute to national integration and development. In doing this, the study revealed that libraries could encounter some challenges such as insufficient of funds, poor infrastructural facilities among others which they need to address. The study recommends that, federal government and parent institution of the library should allocate enough funds for the library to reposition and restructure their mode of operation for national integration and development. The paper concludes that libraries will contribute greatly towards the achievement of national integration and development if they are able to reposition their services toward the national integration and national development

    USE OF MULTIMEDIA TECHNOLOGY AMONG THE LECTURER AND STUDENTS OF OSUN STATE UNIVERSITY

    The aim of this study is to investigate the use of multimedia technology by lecturers and undergraduate students in Osun State University. The study was guided by four research questions. The study adopted descriptive survey design sample was selected using stratified random sampling method, to select 192 lecturers, and 377 undergraduate students. Data collected were analyzed using frequency counts and percentages, and T-test to test the only null hypothesis of the study. The study found out that there was an existence of multimedia technologies (MMT) in the institution. Furthermore, the result showed that both lecturers and students hold positive perception about the use of MMT. The result also revealed that do not use all the available MMT in their institution except internet facilities, computer and media players. Furthermore, the study showed that insufficient technical support; integrating MMT into the curriculum is cumbersome; insufficient internet bandwidth and obsolete MMT hinders them from using it for the pedagogic purpose; and they need to travel between walls in other to make use of MMT are some of the challenges they encountered while using MMT. The result also revealed that there is significant difference in the perception of lecturers and students about the use of MMT. Based on the findings, the study recommends that adequate multimedia facilities should be made available in centralized sections or units of the university so as to enhance effective and easy pedagogic service delivery; workshops training and retraining; conferences and symposium should be organized for lecturers, students and administrators to enlighten them on the need for MMT education

    DETERMINANT FACTORS FOR THE EVALUATION OF LIBRARY WEBSITE CREDIBILITY BY THE UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS IN KWARA STATE UNIVERSITY, KWARA STATE, NIGERIA

    This study investigated determinant factors for the evaluation of library website credibility by the undergraduate students in Kwara State University, Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted and a sample of 378students were selected across the faculties that make up of Kwara State University by using multi-stage sampling technique (Stratified and Simple Random Sampling Technique). A self-designed questionnaire was used to collect data from 378 respondents, out of which 358 copies of the questionnaire were returned and completely filled. Frequency counts and percentages were used to analyze the data collected for the five research questions while T-test was used to test the null hypothesis of the study. The study found that the author and the information on the library websites is accurate and credible; and the accessibility speed of the library website is low. Majority of the respondents also claimed that the information on Kwara State University library website is current; and the respondents rarely use the library website while poor internet network; epileptic power supply; lack of consistency in the layout of the website; and lack of online help are some of the challenges that undergraduate students encountered while using library website. The result also showed that there is a significant difference in the use of library website between male and female undergraduate students. The study recommends that good internet facilities, generator or solar inverter should be provided for effective use of library website

    ATTITUDE OF LIBRARIANS TOWARDS THE USE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES IN SELECTED ACADEMIC LIBRARIES IN KWARA STATE

    ABSTRACT This study examined librarians’ attitude towards the use of ICT in selected academic libraries in Kwara State. Descriptive survey research design was adopted. The population of the study consist of all the librarians in University of Ilorin, Kwara State University and Al-hikma University which gives a total number of 51 librarians. A structured questionnaire was developed to elicit information from the 51 librarians from the selected academic libraries in Kwara State, out of which 49 copies of the questionnaire were completely filled and return. The data collected were analyzed with the use of frequency counts, percentages and PPMC. The results of the study revealed that computer, projector, OPAC among others are the ICT facilities available in the selected library. Most importantly, librarians in the study have positive attitudes towards the use of ICT, and there is a significant relationship between attitude and use of ICT among the librarians. Furthermore, the study found that inadequate funding, poor infrastructural facilities among others are the challenges that librarians encountered while using ICT facilities. The study recommended that adequate funds be made available to the libraries, and there should be alternative for the epileptic power supply
